Stenwood has a new principal beginning in August!  After eight years at Stenwood, Principal Dammeyer announced her retirement back in February.  Since then,  Dr. Zuluaga and the Stenwood staff and community have been going through the FCPS Principal Selection Process.  Today, Dr. Zuluaga and his team joined the Stenwood family to announce Principal Riley, Stenwood's new principal beginning August 1, 2019.

Dr. Zuluaga also sent out an e-mail to the Stenwood community with the official announcement.

Dear Stenwood Community:

The Region 2 Office is pleased to announce that Ms. Erica Riley has been named the new principal for Stenwood Elementary School.  Her official start date will be August 1, 2019.

Ms. Riley is currently the assistant principal at Stenwood Elementary School where she has been helping to lead the school since 2016.   Prior to her tenure at Stenwood ES, she served as the assistant principal at Haycock Elementary from 2014-2016.  Ms. Riley has also served Fairfax County Public Schools as an Advanced Academics Instructional Coach at Rolling Valley Elementary and a third grade teacher at both Belvedere Elementary and Haycock Elementary.

Ms. Riley brings many years of experience and knowledge in the areas of instructional leadership and collaboration. Ms. Riley has played a pivotal role in the implementation and evaluation of the Math Workshop as well as the inclusion of Advanced Academic strategies into the general education curriculum at Stenwood thus raising the academic bar for all students.   She will continue to work to sustain high levels of student performance while fostering team development and distributive leadership.  She is a leader who has a proven track record of cultivating a positive school community and building collaborative trust within the school and community.  Ms. Riley also believes in involving students, parents, and staff in order to create an inviting learning environment for all.  Erica’s excellent communication skills and inclusive approach are an asset to the Stenwood community.

Ms. Riley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Mary Washington College.  She has also attained a Master of Education in Psychology with a Specialty in Gifted Education and received her endorsement in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Riley as the new principal of Stenwood Elementary School.
